StudentsTHE AANR EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The AANR Education Foundation is pleased to announce the 2010 scholarship awards. Ten very deserving young people have chosen the colleges and universities where the awards were sent. The recipients represent AANR clubs from across the entire United States (there were no applicants from Canada.) Here, in alphabetical order, are short profiles of each.

Sarah Bage, age 19, is from White Tail Park in Virginia and a second year recipient of a Foundation scholarship. She finished her first year of college at Richard Bland Junior College and would like to study speech pathology. She was hired as a babysitter for a family near where she lives and found out quickly that it is “a real job!” With two boys under her care, she has to structure time for both them and for herself, but states she enjoys the experience and has learned a lot from the boys’ mother.

Corey M. Felton, age 21, from Lone Star Ranch in Texas, is a four-year recipient of a Foundation scholarship. He is an upperclassman at Sam Houston State University, majoring in computer science. He has always enjoyed music, but discovered this past year how much fun learning history can be! He volunteers for an animal shelter near his home. In his spare time he still serves as webmaster for the AANR Education Foundation.

Krystal Filsinger, age 21, is a member of AANR Florida. She is also a fourth year recipient of a Foundation Scholarship. She is an upperclassman at St. Leo University where she spends numerous hours working in their Learning Resource Center as an English/Writing tutor. Her supervisor there recommended her as being diligent, dedicated and consistently pleasant. Whether working as a volunteer or studying for her degree in Social Work, these attributes should serve her well!

Barbara Finnigan requested that she be recognised as a member of AANR through Whispering Oaks in Michigan for approximately 27 years! Although she has worked as an accountant, she is now going back to Walsh College to get her Bachelor’s in Accountancy. Her hobbies include camping, fishing and swimming. She grows her own vegetables and likes taking care of the garden. She volunteers for Meals on Wheels where she works in the kitchen and delivers hot meals to homebound seniors.

Tiffany Latil, age 18, was AANR’s Young Woman of the Year in 2009. She also was the overall female winner for the Southwest Region’s 5K Nude Racing Series! She has a passion for soccer which she plays, referees and mentors to younger athletes. She plans to begin her college career at Collin County Community College in Frisco, Texas, with plans on becoming accredited in communications and sign language. She has her sights set on being a sign language translator.

Lisabeth O’Neil, age 19, grew up sharing nudist experiences with her family at Lake Bronson Club in the state of Washington. She says some of her happiest memories are there. She has played the viola in the Tacoma Youth Symphony for several years and has been in award winning orchestras throughout her high school years. She plans to attend McDaniel College in Maryland where she will major in mathematics. She would like to become a high school math teacher to pass on her love of math.

Carissa Schuler, age 20, is from Avalon Resort in West Virginia. This is her second award from the Foundation. This summer she put all her AANR youth camping experience into being a camp counselor for AANR East. She is following her dream by attending Marshall University, majoring in nursing. She took her first anatomy class this year and says that it really opened her eyes. Her favorite part was learning the bones in the body – something good to know for a nursing major!

Lorie Walker has worked in several jobs related to accounting. Now she is going back to St. Petersburg College to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. She was a member of Southern Exposure in Naples, Florida, as a teen. She graduated from high school ten years ago and has worked for several businesses since. She is an SSI certified scuba diver since 2006 and loved diving on the Mesoamerican Reef in Honduras. She also loves to play water volleyball and is a regular participant.

Lindsey Westerhof, age 21, a lifelong nudist, has been a member of Paradise Gardens and Turtle Lake Resort. She is in her third year of undergrad studies in Neuroscience and Pre-Pharmacy at the University of Michigan. This is her second scholarship award from the Foundation – the first one was three years ago! She is a staunch activist for individual freedom and is a member of Michigan Young Americans for Freedom. When she isn’t studying, she loves traveling, camping, hiking, photography and volleyball.

James Wilson, age 18, has been a regular, along with his family, at Mountain Air Ranch. He has worked for the Ranch as a housekeeper, a grounds keeper and in the office. But his first love appears to be Automotive Technology. He is active in a four-wheel-drive club and is apprenticed to a master Honda Technician at a Honda dealership. He will attend Salt Lake Community College participating in the PACT (Honda Professional Automotive Career Training) program.

These young people fully deserve the awards they have been given. Their credentials are impeccable and their ambitions high. But we know that there are future students who will also request financial help from the AANR Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation. Won’t you please make a tax deductible donation to help them reach their goals?  Go to the Donations page, and you can contribute today!  Or send a check, payable to AANR Education Foundation to P.O. Box 9281, Phoenix, AZ 85068.
